- Adaptation and testing of an instrument to measure energy literacy in Mexico(2020-04) Castañeda Garza, Gerardo; Valerio Ureña, Gabriel; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey; The International Institute of Knowledge Management - TIIKMWe live in a continuous dependence to energy, and yet, there does not exist a clear sight about what we know and what we ignore about energy. Energy literacy is a broad term encompassing content knowledge as well as a citizenship understanding of energy that includes affective and behavioral aspects. In this study, of quantitative nature with exploratory scope, the purpose was to create an adaptation, and application of a pilot test, of the questionnaire “Energy Literacy Survey” (DeWaters y Powers, 2009) in a sample of university students from Mexico. The method included a translation procedure, the regional adaptation and the development of the pilot test. The sample consisted in a total of 114 participants. The questionnaire was made of 64 items in three sub-scales (cognitive, affective and behavioral). Being an adaptation from an original instrument, reliability and relevance of the items were evaluated. Factorial analysis was used to evaluate the importance of the items. Affective sub-scale showed values superior to 0.5, suggesting relevance in those items, except for two items (A7 and A8). Behaviorsub-scale reports as well most of its values superior to 0.5, with exception of items B4 and B10. In terms of reliability, Cronbach’s alpha was calculated. The affective sub-scale obtained 0.581, being able to increase its value to 0.652 if A5 was removed. On the other hand, behavior sub-scale obtained 0.691, being able to increase to 0.710 if one item was removed. Results of the pilot show differences between students of the faculties of science, engineering and others, as well as differences by gender. Lastly, applications for the instrument are discussed as well as some opportunities to improve it.
- Computer supported collaborative learning. A peer-to-peer experience at the PhD level(2020-11-20) Canchola González, José Antonio; Nava Lara, Sergio AlbertoLearning, as a social phenomenon, is enhanced when it is achieved in a collaborative manner, such as through Computer supported collaborative learning, which involves interaction, communication, and collaboration among a group of people – mediated by technology – to achieve a common learning goal or to resolve a situation which requires a creative response. This paper includes a compilation of doctoral-level students’ learning experiences and is written autonomously by two participants enrolled in an online course on comparative education. The objective of this paper is to describe the experiences and difficulties of implementing computer-based collaboration as a didactic strategy at the postgraduate level, intending to test its pedagogical use. The research found that when information and communication technologies (ICT) are applied to educational processes, they induce transformations which affect both how individuals learn and the digital and informational competences they acquire
- Innovative public policies in the development of reading skills in basic education: regarding the systematic mapping protocol(2020-10-22) Honorato-Errázuriz, Jesús; Ramírez-Montoya, María Soledad; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey; Universidad de SalamancaToday the urgency to improve comprehensive reading in the first years of schooling is even greater as a result of the Pandemic, especially in Latin America. Generating innovative public policies focused on the development of this competence will be fundamental to diminish the educational gap generated. The objective of this article is to analyze the evidence published over the last four years (2015 and 2020) with respect to innovation in effective public reading policies and to identify publications on the subject that can contribute with other studies or practical experiences in order to accelerate the learning process. The systematic mapping was used as a systematic method for the review of 233 articles that were published in Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus dtabase. Inclusion, exclusion and quality criteria were applied to obtain the maximum of relevant information. The results show the type of methodology and evaluation used, the most cited articles, the journals where they were published, the geographical distribution of the authors, application contexts and the topics addressed. This document is presented as a challenge for educational policy developers and in particular for those who focus on reading skills, providing evidence to generate transferable models for accelerated learning and educational change so required by this society in the current situation.
