- Use of ChatGPT at university as a tool for complex thinking:students' perceived usefulness(Universidad de Alicante, 2023-07-15) Romero Rodríguez, José María; Ramírez Montoya, María Soledad; Buenestado Fernández, Mariana; Lara Lara, Fernando; https://ror.org/04njjy449; https://ror.org/03ayjn504; https://ror.org/046ffzj20Artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-based chatbots, such as ChatGPT, are transforming the approach to education. In particular, ChatGPT's potential to process large amounts of data and learn from user interactions makes it a beneficial resource for students, albeit with some reluctance from some teachers. This study aimed to explore the acceptance of ChatGPT by university students. The researchers administered an online survey to 400 Spanish university students aged 18-64 (M = 21.80; SD = 6.40). The results of the methodological approach based on the UTAUT2 model for technology adoption showed that: 1) gender was not a determining variable in any construct while the experience of use was a factor conditioning a higher score on all constructs; 2) experience, performance expectancy, hedonic motivation, price value, and habit were influential in behavioral intention to use ChatGPT; 3) facilitating conditions, habit, and behavioral intention were conditioning factors in user behavior. Finally, this report discusses the findings and practical implications of the work and recommends some good uses for ChatGPT.
- Development of complex thinking in a professional training process: An approach to business students of a mexican university(2023-07-14) Carlos Arroyo, Martina; Vázquez Parra, José Carlos; Cruz Sandoval, Marco Antonio; Romero Rodríguez, José María; https://ror.org/03ayjn504; https://ror.org/04njjy449This article aims to present an analysis of the development of the level of perceived achievement of complex thinking competency in a group of business students at a university in Mexico. The intention was to identify the scaling of the competency and its sub-competencies during the training process and whether the students have the necessary skills to solve the problems and meet the challenges of their future environments. The study conducted exploratory and multivariate descriptive statistical analyses. The results showed that the participants perceived their achievement of the competency and its sub-competencies highly at the end of their training process and that the students scaled up their sub-competencies considerably.
- Collaborative online international learning between Spain and Mexico: a microlearning experience to enhance creativity in complexity(Emerald, 2022-11-19) Ramírez Montoya, María Soledad; Romero Rodríguez, José María; Glasserman Morales, Leonardo David; Navas Parejo, Magdalena Ramos; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de MonterreyThe aim of this paper was to analyse the creative competence of students before and after a microlearning experience carried out in a collaborative online international learning (COIL) environment between Spanish and Mexican university students in the field of education and entrepreneurship. A single-group quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest measures was adopted. The composition of the group was natural and included a total of 57 students who participated in the COIL experience. The duration was three weeks, where students from both countries were linked together in the development of a microlearning project. The Creativity Self-Efficacy Scale was used as a data collection instrument. The microlearning activities through COIL developed the creative competence of the participating students. In particular, the groups from both universities improved their scores on the creative competence in the post-test compared to the pre-test measure. The limitations of this study were linked to the sample loss of some cases, as some students did not complete the post-test measure. The main implication of the study was to demonstrate that COIL experiences are suitable for developing certain skills in students, such as creative competence or cooperative work. COIL experiences break down the barriers of physical space and give students an active role, allowing them to fully develop competences and offering an intercultural perspective, which encourages open-mindedness and understanding of the world.
- Needs and expectations of university students: Learning from the impact of Covid-19 upon 9 Spanish universities(IIER, 2022-03-07) García González, Abel; Ramírez Montoya, María Soledad; Aznar Diaz, Inmaculada; Romero Rodríguez, José María; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de MonterreyThis research studied the needs of university students receiving distance and hybrid education during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study's main objective was to analyse the university students' expectations and needs in the Andalusia (Spain) region during the Covid-19 health emergency, to provide guidelines for post-Covid online and hybrid educational continuity. A qualitative interpretative study was carried out on the survey responses of 641 undergraduate and postgraduate students in nine Andalusian universities. Six themes related to the students' needs and expectations came from the findings. The needs and expectations of students during a health emergency like the Covid-19 pandemic depend on university management developing and implementing a clear plan of action, continually communicating with students, training teachers in the virtual and hybrid modalities, and building and maintaining empathetic relationships in the university community
- Sharing images or videos of minors online: Validation of the Sharenting Evaluation Scale (SES).(2022-02-04) Kopecký, Kamil; Gómez García, Gerardo; Romero Rodríguez, José María; García González, Abel; Gómez García, Gerardo; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de MonterreySharenting is a current phenomenon of online communication, which is related to the sharing of images of the youngest members of the family (often minors) by parents or relatives, mainly on social networks. However, this constitutes a series of consequences that compromise privacy and may put the child at risk. The aim of this work was to validate the Sharenting Evaluation Scale (SES), designed to assess the degree of sharenting in the adult population, in order to catalogue the type of practice performed through ranges. A rigorous process of design and validation of the scale was carried out on a sample of 146 Spanish adults. Different strategies were used, such as expert judgement, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and reliability analysis using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. After that, the scale was composed of 17 items configured in three factors: implications, social behaviour, and self-control. Finally, the scale showed good psychometric properties, providing a unique and reliable instrument to assess the degree of sharenting performed by an adult.
- The Phenomenon of Sexting Among Mexican and Spanish University Students: A Multigroup Model(Springer, 2021-01-20) García González, Abel; Romero Rodríguez, José María; Ramírez Montoya, María Soledad; Aznar Díaz, Inmaculada; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de MonterreyThe practice of sexting is a phenomenon that has been growing in recent times due to the use of technology and the advance of mobile devices. This practice can have negative consequences for young people who practice it without knowing the risk involved. The main objectives of this paper were to analyze sexting behavior in Mexican and Spanish university students, and to determine the possible sociodemographic factors that influence sexting practice in order to generate explanatory models. A cross-sectional study design was adopted by applying an online survey to a sample of 781 university students. The students belonged to two different institutions, 394 from a Mexican university and 387 from a Spanish university. The results indicated that the practice of sexting was higher in Spanish university students and there were significant differences between the two populations. Furthermore, the model generated on sexting indicated that the country, gender, sexual orientation and use of dating applications were possible predictors of this phenomenon. At the same time, the practice of sexting had a possible influence on students’ levels of depression and stress. Finally, the data and findings obtained showed relevant data on the practice of sexting in Mexican and Spanish students and on the sociodemographic factors that can be influential.
- Social appropriation of knowledge as a key factor for local development and open innovation: a systematic review(MDPI AG, 2020-06-19) Romero Rodríguez, José María; Ramírez Montoya, María Soledad; Aznar Diaz, Inmaculada; Hinojo Lucena, Francisco Javier; Department of Didactics and School Organization, University of Granada; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de MonterreyThe social appropriation of knowledge is an emerging descriptor in political agendas, since it drives social development and innovation. The relevance of this strategy lies mainly in the fact that scientific knowledge is made available to the population for its use and application. The purposes of this study were to identify the context and purpose presented by the experiences of social appropriation of knowledge, and to analyze the linkage of the experiences with the sectors that make up the pentahelix. To this end, a systematic review methodology was proposed in the Web of Science (WOS) and SCOPUS. Following the application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 14 articles were analyzed. The results showed the emergence of this term, the geographical location of all experiences in Latin America, and the diversity of application of knowledge to favor local development. At the same time, it is shown that the institutions belonging to the government have developed experiences of social appropriation of knowledge in all other sectors of the pentahelix. Finally, we discuss the findings and implications of this study that showed the diverse experiences of social appropriation of knowledge and investigated this concept in connection to open science.
