Abstract

The primary objective of this thesis proposal is to develop a methodology to follow to create a novel skateboard chassis tailored for an electric vehicle (EV) specifically designed for monitoring steel rolls within an industrial yard. This specialized chassis model is intended to comply with safety standards and regulations while also demonstrating a significant reduction in weight. Additionally, the proposal aims to elucidate the potential manufacturing processes that can be employed to fabricate this innovative skateboard chassis design. This document is crafted as a component of the Master of Science in Manufacturing Systems program at Tecnológico de Monterrey. Furthermore, this thesis endeavors to establish the validation of the proposed skateboard chassis design through finite element analysis, ensuring its safety for both passengers and the environment in the context of industrial monitoring tasks. The overarching goal of this endeavor is to achieve an optimized chassis design that results in a substantial reduction in overall vehicle weight. This weight reduction is pivotal as it contributes to energy efficiency, enabling the EV to conserve battery power while effectively performing its role in monitoring steel rolls within an industrial yard. The successful realization of this optimized design holds the potential to enhance the efficiency and versatility of EVs in industrial applications. It can position electric vehicles as a practical and sustainable solution for such monitoring tasks, offering benefits in terms of reduced energy consumption and environmental impact. This thesis proposal embodies a multifaceted endeavor aimed at innovation in skateboard chassis design for an electric vehicle tailored to industrial monitoring of steel rolls. It underscores the importance of weight reduction, safety, and environmental sustainability, reflecting a commitment to advancing the application of electric mobility in industrial contexts.
